A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

What is this game?

Odinbit is an engaging 2D sandbox game with a minimalist design. It harmoniously combines elements of building, crafting, farming, and animal husbandry, offering a multitude of exciting mechanics. Despite its visual simplicity, Odinbit aims to provide a deep and captivating gameplay experience. Currently, a portion of the features has been implemented, but the game continues to actively develop and expand, promising players even more exciting content.

How to play?

Control your character using the WASD keys, open the inventory with the E key, and access the menu with the Escape key. To start gathering resources, find tools near skeletons in the game world. Explore and break blocks in ruins using appropriate tools (pickaxe, axe, or shovel). New blocks will appear in your inventory, replacing question marks. Look for plant sprouts in ruin vessels or on cemetery tombstones, and obtain tree saplings by chopping trees with an axe. Note that no more than 32 sprouts and 32 saplings can grow simultaneously. To craft blocks, select the desired type in the inventory (cost: 25 units of the corresponding material). To recycle a block back into materials, right-click on it in the inventory. For convenient block switching, select the desired page in the inventory, then use keys 1 to 9 for quick selection. Remember that the Odinbit world is dynamic: bones, trees, and stones appear in new locations over time, ensuring a constant influx of resources.

What's in the new update?

The latest Odinbit update has brought several important improvements and new features. A bug with incorrect fence type return upon destruction has been fixed. The world save format has been significantly optimized: it now occupies only 87.5 KB uncompressed and 30 KB compressed, down from the previous 1100 KB. A resource regeneration system has been introduced: skeletons with tools, trees, and stones now replenish in the world, providing players with unlimited opportunities for creativity and construction. Old ruins have been replaced with new, more natural and visually appealing ones. Tree growing and farming mechanics have been added, allowing players to grow saplings and plant sprouts. World rendering has been improved for better performance, although there were no significant issues with this before. To balance the gameplay, a limit of 32 saplings and 32 sprouts growing simultaneously has been set.

Great demo. What I want to say, without water: Pleasant control of the character, the camera moves smoothly behind him. The sounds are also pleasant, it's a pity there is little music and it does not appear predictably. I was interested in building in the game, you can even plant some pumpkins there. I found a bug, seedlings appear in the borders of the map and punch holes in the walls (I made a "laboratory for exploring holes in the boundaries of the map" there) . I wish the author good luck.

Классная игра. Было бы прикольно, если бы добавить Оконный режим для игры, ну а так ждем развития проекта!

Cool game. It would be cool if we could add a Windowed mode for the game, but anyway, we are waiting for the future updates!

Awesome demo! The controls feel really nice. The game has tons of room for growth and new features. Looking forward to seeing its growth. :)

Thank you very much. I'll do my best to make it more fun for you to play with each update.

Copied from my review:

Interesting little demo, starts up instantly and the binary is only 4MB, really lightweight!

Some things I noticed:

  • You can't hold down buttons to move
  • The movement itself actually feels nice and smooth
  • The game page (and the game itself) doesn't show the shortcut to access inventory, which is currently E
  • No indication on what block I'm currently holding
  • The ruins required to research blocks (by breaking them) are a bit hard to find

Also, it's a bit strange that you can get resources from any block visible on screen, but I guess it's just a design choice.

Well, in summary, it's a nice demo, but still early to say anything about it as a full game :)
